One of the most important initiatives in tobacco control has taken root and is now thriving in communities throughout our region.

With grants from the Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation (OTPF), the Northwest Ohio Strategic Alliance for Tobacco Control is funding a network of diverse organizations all committed to one goal: significantly reducing tobacco use in Northwest Ohio.

The Alliance channels funds from the OTPF to “sub-grantees” who coordinate evidence-based, community-level planning, partnership and implementation of comprehensive tobacco control programs.

To understand how the Alliance fits into the scheme of things, imagine a majestic oak tree. At ground level, there’s the Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation (OTPF) along with the Healthy Communities Foundation of the Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio. They are the roots of this initiative. The Alliance is the trunk of the tree, with its wide-ranging steering committee distributing funds to strengthen the growth and development of the branches – in this case, numerous Northwest Ohio counties where community-level plans for tobacco prevention and cessation are being implemented. In this way, the Alliance supports a unified regional effort that’s helping to get the message out to thousands of at-risk citizens throughout Northwest Ohio.

Most important to you, these tobacco control programs are available to help the populations you serve.

In the U.S., tobacco use is a leading preventable cause of death and disease. In Northwest Ohio, the Alliance is the leading resource for reducing tobacco use.
