Wauseon update: city ordinance takes effect
They did it! In November 2004, 51% of Wauseon voters approved the city’s proposed smoking ban, which outlawed smoking in restaurants and nearly all other workplaces. Wauseon’s charter requires city council to approve ballot proposals before they become law, so, in January; council clarified the city’s smoking ordinance.

The result: local restaurants must provide non-smoking areas, although they do not have to be completely enclosed or separately ventilated. Unfortunately, bars and private clubs and restaurants that seat less than 50 people are exempt from the regulations.

But there’s other good news: two more local restaurants have decided to go smoke-free, despite the relaxed ban. Added to the other eateries in town, which are already smoke-free, that leaves only three Wauseon restaurants where smoking is still allowed. Great news for diners who prefer clean air with their meals!
