Year 4: Programs Continue with $930,329 Grant The Alliance will receive funding through December 2006 totaling $930,329 to continue tobacco prevention and cessation programming in 16 Northwest Ohio counties: Allen, Auglaize, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Huron, Lucas, Ottawa, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Williams, Wood and Wyandot. “I am impressed with the way organizations throughout Northwest Ohio have come together through the Alliance to reduce tobacco use,” said State Senator Randy Gardner, R., 2nd District, during the check presentation ceremony. “The Alliance is demonstrating how local communities can work together efficiently and effectively to address a huge public health issue.” Along with the Alliance, TUPCF extended 24 three-year grants for a fourth year. The total amount of extensions granted was $8.7 million, an 8% decrease from current funding levels. That means we’ve retained 95.5% of last year’s budget for programming and staff. Even better, we’ve been able to avoid any layoffs, although some people may work fewer hours. But, all in all, wonderful news for starting off the new year! |
