Study Update: Adult Smoking Rates Drop 11%
Northwest Ohio saw a dramatic drop in its adult smoking rate from 32.2% in 2003 to 20.4% in 2004. This finding is according to the 2004 Adult Tobacco Study (ATS), a collaborative research effort by the Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation, the Ohio Department of Health and the Research Triangle Institute, with assistance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The 2004 ATS included interviews with 648 residents of Northwest Ohio, 129 of whom are current smokers. Research Triangle Institute is preparing a report that summarizes other changes in Northwest Ohioans' tobacco-use behaviors and attitudes regarding tobacco and secondhand smoke between the 2003 and 2004 ATS. Results from that report will be presented when available.
